
School Council
Introduction
The school council is a democratically elected group
who represent the views of all school pupils. The council is
fully involved in the life of the school and has, over the
years, made large scale changes to how the school runs and is
resourced. Please download the below document which lists a
number of these school council initiatives and developments.

Role of tutor group representative
1. To represent the views of the children
in the school at a half termly council meeting.
2. To canvas the views of other children
in their tutor group on decisions to be taken in the school.
3. To be involved in the decision making
process which happens in the school, so that the council aims to
improve the pupil experiences within the school.
4. To consult and inform other children,
via assemblies and other means of the changes to school
organisation as well as council decisions and business.
5. To represent the school at local
Borough Council Youth Sub Committee meetings.
6. To put forward ideas from themselves
and children in their tutor group on how to improve the
organisation or environment of the school and ideas relating to
fund raising/charity or events involving pupils.
7. To explain concerns of pupils to the
half termly council meeting.
8. To serve as tutor group representative
for 1 year.
Election of School Council
Representatives
Pupils who are willing to stand in an
election address their tutor group explaining why they wish
to be a tutor group representative. The election, by secret ballot, follows
during the tutor time. The class representative's term of office
will be one year.
Structure of the Council
1. The student council should be composed
of representatives from each tutor group, and advisory members
from the staff.
2. Each tutor group will have an annual
election one month into the Autumn Term.
3. The council will elect a member to
chair the meetings, this will mean that they will organise the
dates of meetings and the agenda for the meetings. The council
will elect a secretary to write minutes for the meetings and
circulate these to each class. |
