Abington's Specialist School Status Success
Abington, in partnership with other local schools, made an
application to become a Specialist School in the Performing
Arts.
We
were informed in January 2008 that we had been successful in our
bid. This is fabulous news for the school and we are all really
pleased.
This
success follows on from our previous successes this year with
the awards of Sportsmark, Investors in People and the Princess
Diana Gold Award, as well as being in the top 1% of schools in
England for pupil progress.
We
are now a Specialist Arts School working in partnership with
Guthlaxton College who have had Arts status since 1999. We will
be working closely with other local schools including our
special partner primary schools being All Saints, The Meadow,
Thythorn Field and St John Fisher.
Being
a specialist Arts School does not mean that other subjects will
be given less priority. Rather, it means that our chosen
subjects of Music, Dance/Drama and ICT (Digital Media) will
receive extra funding from the Government and will allow us to
work with local community groups and businesses.
This
is very exciting and will benefit the children enormously. For
the children it will mean extra activities, more clubs, more
trips and visits and improved resources with more concerts and
productions. We are looking forward to all these exciting
activities for the children.
Incidentally, we will be the only High School in Leicestershire
which will be specialising in new computer technologies relating
to ICT Digital Media.
Thank
you to everyone who helped with the application which enabled
this fantastic achievement. |
