Mathematics Department
Ofsted quote: "The very good relationships
that exist between teachers and pupils have established pupil
confidence in their mathematical ability"
A high level of mathematical skills is of
increasing importance in the modern world. Practical work,
problem solving, discussion, and the practice of basic skills
are all needed for the successful learning of mathematics. The
department follows the national numeracy strategy and the three
part based lesson plan. ICT plays an important role in learning
and much use is made of spreadsheet software, maths software
applications like Omnigraph and web based materials.
Children learn mathematics at different
rates, and to allow for this ability-setting is operated from
the start of the pupils’ time at the school. Those that can
forge ahead are able to do so, while those who take longer to
perfect the skills of mathematics can work at a slower pace.
Other subject departments are asked to
support our school-wide policies on mathematical and graphical
skills, so a consistent approach is achieved. |
